About William Malo:

William Malo is co-owner of LZ bar and Grill

  • Malo joined the Army 1967 and went to flight school at Ft. Wolters and Ft. Rucker before he graduated from flight school April 1968. He then attended Maintenance Officer school Ft Eustis, Va and graduated July 1968.
  • Went to Vietnam with C Co 101st as a huey pilot and test pilot. Flew in Vietnam for one year with 1500 hours of flight time.
  • Returned in 1969 to the U.S. and was stationed at Ft. Eustis as an instructor at the Maintenance Officers course.
  • Received a direct commission to Captain in 1970.
  • In 1971 he went to Infantry Officer school and jump school on his way back to Vietnam. There he was a Mainenance Officer and Test Pilot for the 388th Trans co.
  • In 1973 he returned to the U.S. at Ft. Campell, Ky and was the XO/CO of the 507th Trans Co. Sept 1972. The Army said there are too many Captains in the Army and he had to get out.
  • William then moved to Denver Colorado and was going to get his college degree. He worked pumping gas at the airport until he got job flying EMS at St. Anthony’s hospital. He flew for 7 years as an EMS pilot. Flew Pensacola where he met his wife Evelyn and they were married in 1978
  • In 1981 he went back in the Army as a W2 thru the Guard. He flew as an AH1 Test Pilot and Maintenance Test pilot Evaluator for the Army until 1996 when the Army decided to let him out again.
  • 1996 – He went to YPG as a program Manager and a test Pilot where he worked until 2007.
  • 2007 – Worked for DyCorp International on a State Department program where he also worked in Pakistan as a Maintenance Manager and test pilot.
  • 2008 – I went to work in Iraq as a Maintenance Manager and test pilot for the Iraqi Air force under Westar
  • 2010 – He became a Test Pilot once again for the State Department on his way back to Iraq. He has been test pilot Maintenance manager for past 42 years
  • 44 years in Aviation, 10750 flight hours
  • Two Bronze Stars with 12 Air medals.
  • William Malo has been in two movies as a helicopter pilot. Home Fries and Three Kings. He also was on several tv shows one of which was JAG
